On Friday, members of ZAKOPOWER, a very popular Polish band which combines the “góralska” folk music with modern rock, were deported back to Poland from the Chicago airport. They were supposed to perform at a large concert for the Polish community there and Poles in Chicago are not only disappointed but “outraged” reported RMF FM. Tabloid Fakt called the situation an “international scandal” in their front-page story. Isn’t the criticism a bit too harsh?

Polish cultural performers are welcome in America but it’s important to remember that foreign citizens planning to perform in the United States need to obtain a special category of visa. Every year, large numbers of Polish performers obtain the correct visa and fly to the United States to perform there.
