We’d love to remind our friends in Gdansk about our newly reopened American Corner, a resource center for American books, movies, and reference materials; resources for teaching English to elementary students; and events affiliate with the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw.  More photos from Michael Dobbs’ recent visit can be found here, courtesy of our American Corner staff Ania and Marta.

What was it like to be a foreign reporter in Poland during Communism and under martial law?  What role should foreign governments and NGOs play in supporting resistance movements?  How critical is journalism to a functioning democracy?

On Monday, we discussed all these questions and more with our latest American Expert in Poland, Michael Dobbs, at an event hosted by POLIS – the Association of Young Journalists at “Sklep z kanapkami.”  Thanks again to Marta and Piotr for their fantastic moderation of the discussion and to everyone for their insightful questions.  If you want to make sure you hear about future events like this, you can find us on Facebook or send an email to asking to be added to our mailing list.
