Yesterday, we were excited to co-host a conference in Warsaw on “The Multilingual and Multicultural School,” together with the City Hall of Warsaw, the Warsaw Young Learners Resource Center, the Center for Social Innovation and Training, and the International Organization for Migration. The program featured introductions by Ambassador Victor Ashe, Vice Mayor Wlodzimierz Paszynski, and a representative from the Embassy of Ukraine; keynote speaker Krystyna Starczewska, Director of Gimnazjum no. 20 “Raszynska;” panel discussions on ethnic minorities in the education system, multilingualism in the classrom, and multiculturalism in Europe; and presentation of resources for teaching about migration and refugees, about multiculturalism in American classrooms, and about programs supporting Warsaw schools in educating immigrant students. Miroslaw Sielatycki closed the conference, which we hope was useful for everyone in attendance.
Teachers who are interested in finding resources presented at the conference are encouraged to contact the organizers, including the Young Learners Resource Center.
